Ruben Andreoli, the 47-year-old accused of the murder in Sirmione of his mother Nerina Fontana, appeared before the Court of Assizes in Brescia for the start of the trial. The incident took place on September 15, 2023, when Andreoli struck his mother with kicks and punches during an argument in their home. A year and a half after the events, the defendant stated that he has “few confused memories” and feels a sense of “disgust and shame” for what happened. The tension between the two was heightened by family conflicts that had strained their relationship, particularly related to the defendant’s marital life.
The tragic event unfolded on the balcony of their house, witnessed by a neighbor who immediately alerted the authorities. The trial included a request for a psychiatric evaluation for Andreoli, with his defense attorney Marco Capra emphasizing that the motive should not be attributed to financial issues but rather to a fit of rage triggered by traumatic events in the man’s past, including the loss of his father in 2015 and the death of his son and mother-in-law in 2018.
