Recently, at the Salionze Dam, located in Ponti sul Mincio, new sluice gates have been installed to replace those dating back to the period between 1942 and 1948. This operation, which took place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, marks a significant step in modernizing the system that regulates the water level of the Lake Garda and manages the outflow of water towards the Mincio River. The new structures, each measuring 10 meters in length and approximately 3 meters in height, weigh around 10 tons, ensuring greater functionality compared to their predecessors.
Senator Mariastella Gelmini has described this intervention as “strategic for hydraulic safety,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration among the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, and the Autonomous Province of Trento in the design and implementation of this project funded by PNRR resources. The Salionze Dam represents a crucial element in managing water levels in the Garda basin, where it is estimated that it can regulate up to 500 million cubic meters of water. An efficient regulatory system is essential to prevent issues related to both excessively low levels and potential flooding.
