A new railway link between Brescia and Montichiari is taking shape thanks to a project promoted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, part of the FS Group. This initiative, prompted by the Lombardy Region during discussions with local authorities, aims to enhance sustainable mobility in the area, allowing for a direct journey of just 24 minutes. The plan includes the construction of a single track between Ghedi and Montichiari, dedicated exclusively to passenger transport, with strategic stops near the fairgrounds and the airport.
The projected investment for the project amounts to approximately 400 million euros, with potential funding through ministerial resources and European funds. Currently, the opinions of the Region and the Province are awaited regarding any modifications. This connection is an integral part of the ministerial plan to strengthen the Italian railway network and reduce road transport, thereby addressing traffic issues in the region.
