The daredevils of the New Year’s Swim are getting ready for the traditional event that will take place in Toscolano on January 1st. This weekend, some enthusiasts have already tested the icy winter waters at the Maderno beach, demonstrating that they have no intention of being caught unprepared. In recent years, the number of participants has steadily increased, surpassing one hundred, making this ritual one of the most anticipated events on the entire Lake Garda.
Alido Cavazzoni, a 76-year-old former street vendor and resident of Toscolano, stated that he has been training for weeks for his nineteenth New Year’s swim. Alongside him, a group of six people participated in the Sunday training, documented by a photographer friend. “Anyone who wants to join us is always welcome,” Alido said, inviting new participants to the next gathering scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Maderno beach. With water temperatures at 14 degrees and air at 7 degrees, the daredevils continue to enthusiastically challenge the weather conditions.
