The collection center for palm trees infested with the red palm weevil, set up in the parking lot of the Madonna delle Grazie sanctuary in Arco, will remain open until April 30th. It is crucial to cut and dispose of the affected palms before the arrival of the summer season to prevent the emergence of butterflies that would spread more larvae to other palms. Only a widespread cutting action throughout the territory can reduce the spread of the moth to the benefit of healthy plants.
The collection center is accessible to domestic users upon presentation of the health card of the waste fee holder and is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 pm. It should be noted that all palm trees must be deposited exclusively at this collection center.
For plants still in good condition, it is possible to proceed with phytosanitary treatments by relying on experts in the field. However, for compromised plants in evident vegetative distress, the only solution is cutting and disposal.
Before depositing at the collection center, trunks must be cut into sections of approximately 50 centimeters in length, and the leaves must be separated from the trunk. Leaves and trunks should be deposited in two separate areas, not exceeding two cubic meters per day for leaves and the same for trunks, corresponding to about four medium-sized palm trees.
An exemption has been granted from the obligation to submit an application to the Building Unit for the cutting of trees taller than 5 meters.
