Riva has announced an extension until **February 15** for the collection of trunks from infected palm trees, due to the infestation of the **palm weevil**, known as **Paysandisia archon**, a moth native to South America that has also affected the Alto Garda area. The maximum quantity of trunks allowed remains set at approximately two cubic meters per day, with the requirement to cut the trunks into pieces of about 50 centimeters. The **Ceole** center will be operational from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 12 PM, and on Wednesday and Saturday also in the afternoon.
To address the emergency caused by the weevil, a working group has been established involving the valley community, the affected municipalities, and experts from the Province and the Edmund Mach Foundation. The larvae of Paysandisia archon burrow into the trunk and leaves of the palm trees, leading to the plants’ death. To protect healthy specimens, it is recommended to carry out phytosanitary treatments, and for those that are compromised, to proceed with the cutting and disposal of infected trunks to limit the spread of the pest.
