Curious white and yellowish plastic wheels have been spotted again on the beaches of Campione and Toscolano, on Lake Garda. These small objects are likely coming from the local sewage treatment plants, transported by the current. In particular, it is suspected that the wheels may come from the Tremosine-Limone consortium sewage treatment plant or even from the Linfano plant in Arco, Trentino. The wheels are necessary elements for the purification of wastewater through a biomass cleaning system.
The presence of these wheels has caught the attention of beachgoers and internet users, who have started taking photos and sharing them online. The lake’s current has pushed these lightweight elements southward, reaching the Vialone beach in Toscolano Maderno. This event highlights the importance of monitoring sewage treatment systems and their impact on the surrounding environment, raising questions about the management of plastic waste in natural water bodies.
