Pozzolengo is at risk of losing the passage of the Giro d’Italia. After the announcement by Mayor Paolo Bellini that permission for the time trial stage from Castiglione delle Stiviere to Desenzano del Garda, scheduled for May 18th, has been denied due to organizational and safety reasons, a possible alternative route is being evaluated.
The final decision lies with the Giro organizer, Rcs, but it seems that an alternative is already being prepared in case the passage through Pozzolengo is no longer possible. According to reports from the Gazzetta di Mantova, the route could be altered after the start in Castiglione, heading towards the province of Brescia and passing through the town of Bande a Solferino. From there, the cyclists would head towards Madonna della Scoperta in Lonato and then rejoin the original route until Torre di San Martino.
This solution would allow the town center of Pozzolengo to be avoided, although it would result in an extension of the stage from 31 to 43 kilometers. It is still uncertain whether this alternative will actually be necessary, but if no agreement can be reached with Mayor Bellini, it could become the final route for the time trial.
Therefore, we must wait for the official decisions from the organizer and see if it will be possible to find a compromise with the local authorities to ensure the passage of the Giro d’Italia through Pozzolengo.
