Pozzolengo is opposing a photovoltaic park project that involves the installation of panels on a 64,000 square meter agricultural area, currently cultivated with alfalfa and surrounded by vineyards. The proposing company, Garda Solare srl from Milan, has already faced significant resistance from the new municipal administration, led by Mayor Alex Franzoni, who has expressed opposition to the consumption of agricultural land. The public assembly held on Monday saw active participation from citizens, resulting in the formation of a local committee to contest the project.
While the municipality argues that the installation would harm the tourism image and take away valuable agricultural land, the Province of Brescia has expressed support for the initiative, deeming the area suitable for installation. The municipality is considering possible legal actions if necessary, and the WWF has emphasized the importance of protecting agricultural land, suggesting alternatives such as agrivoltaic projects that integrate solar energy with agricultural activities.
