The Lombardy Region has intensified its actions against gender-based violence, presenting an ambitious plan for the prevention of violence against women. During a recent assembly, the councilor for Social Policies emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and continuing efforts to eliminate this phenomenon, which significantly impacts society. The Region has activated 27 inter-institutional anti-violence networks, comprising 57 Anti-Violence Centers and 157 Shelters, to provide concrete support to women who are victims of abuse. Among the new measures introduced is the free allocation of ALER housing for women in distress and a call for proposals to facilitate their reintegration into the workforce.
The program also includes educational initiatives in schools and collaborations with professionals in the social sector, such as psychologists and lawyers, to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence. Despite the progress made, recent data indicates that in 2024, there have already been 94 recorded murders of women in Italy, with six cases occurring in Lombardy. Statistics show that many of the victims have stable employment or are unemployed, and the most common forms of violence include psychological and physical abuse. The Region continues to actively engage in the fight against this social scourge, seeking innovative and concrete solutions to ensure safety and autonomy for affected women.
