The Gardesana road, between the municipalities of Riva del Garda and Limone, was reopened to vehicular traffic at 12 noon on Thursday, March 28. The opening occurred an hour and a half earlier than scheduled.
This morning, explosive dislodging operations were carried out on the side of the road leading to Ponale, where several large rocks had fallen from the slopes of Rocchetta at the beginning of the month. Over twenty cubic meters of material had invaded the highway, necessitating the closure of the road for safety reasons.
In the afternoon, there will be additional brief interruptions of traffic, with a maximum duration of ten minutes, to allow technicians to carry out further dislodging and controlled sinking operations of the remaining rocky volumes in the catchment area after the explosive charges were detonated. These operations are expected to conclude around 6 p.m., according to the road and maintenance service of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
The reopening of Gardesana is good news for motorists who can now travel along this important road artery without having to take long detours. However, caution is still necessary when driving along this stretch, especially in bad weather or adverse weather conditions that could cause rocks to detach from the surrounding rock walls.
It is important to emphasize that the reopening of the road was made possible thanks to the timely intervention of the competent authorities, who removed the rocks and restored the safety conditions for vehicle traffic. Constant maintenance of road infrastructure is crucial to ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians along our roads.
