The Coast Guard rescued 15 people, including two minors, during a violent storm that hit Lake Garda on August 14, 2024. Despite a weather alert issued by the Civil Protection in the afternoon, many swimmers and boaters continued to navigate, leading to dozens of rescue requests between 5 PM and 9 PM. The interventions were concentrated in various locations, such as Sirmione, where a capsized sailboat and a disabled motorboat with five people on board were recovered.
Thanks to the prompt deployment of vessels from the 1st Unit of the Coast Guard along the coast, the rescues were carried out swiftly. Among the most significant rescues was that of an entire family in the Gulf of Salò, stranded due to a motor failure. The Coast Guard reiterated its advice to avoid water activities in adverse weather conditions and to always check forecasts before embarking on navigation or swimming.
