Riva del Garda: Residence Requirement Lifted for Mayor Cristina Santi The mayor of Riva del Garda, Cristina Santi, has successfully had her residence requirement revoked, which was imposed following a large judicial investigation into the phenomenon of corruption in Trentino Alto Adige. The inquiry, initiated last December, involved a total of 77 individuals and led to the arrest of 9 people, including entrepreneurs and local officials, accused of criminal conspiracy. The mayor’s defense attorneys announced the decision made by the Preliminary Investigating Judge (Gip), emphasizing that Santi has always maintained her innocence regarding the allegations. “I hope this is a first step towards a definitive confirmation of my innocence,” she commented.
The investigation was coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate of Trento and revealed the activities of a business group led by entrepreneur Renè Benko, who is believed to have influenced the decisions of public administrations in the Trentino construction sector. The precautionary measure against the mayor was annulled just a few days after its imposition by the Gip.
