The construction of the new school complex in the Degasperi district is well underway, and in September, the new primary school will finally be inaugurated. This significant project also includes the construction of a gymnasium that can be used by external users, as well as the demolition of the current building and the recovery of green space for the new construction. Additionally, the adjacent nursery school will be expanded, and the existing building will undergo seismic retrofitting.
The new primary school, which costs over 6 million euros, spans three floors and offers various classrooms, laboratories, multipurpose spaces, a cafeteria, and a Coni-certified gymnasium. The basement floor includes 40 parking spaces, technical rooms, and a storage area. On the ground floor, there are nine classrooms for educational activities, a computer laboratory, a multipurpose space, a teachers’ room, a cafeteria with a fully equipped kitchen, and a gymnasium. The first floor houses five Montessori classrooms, a classroom for educational activities, a computer laboratory, two classrooms for integration or individualized and personalized activities, two teachers’ rooms, a multipurpose laboratory, the gymnasium’s bleachers, and an outdoor terrace.
Currently, the flooring is being laid, and the exterior walls are being painted. Soon, the cafeteria’s windows will be installed, and external improvements will be made on Grez Street, including the relocation of boundary walls and the creation of an external pedestrian and cycling path. It is expected that the construction will be completed by the end of June, and the students will be able to be accommodated in the new facility by September.
Starting in July, the existing desks and furniture, which are still in good condition, will be transferred to the new school. This relocation can also be done in phases, class by class, within the school area. Additionally, a tender will be issued for the purchase of new necessary furniture. Numbered and signed floor plans will be provided to the school institution to determine the required equipment for each classroom.
The project for the new school complex was approved in 2015, and the construction contract was signed in 2020. The construction began in 2021, and it is expected to be completed by June 2024. The new school year will commence in the new school in September 2024.
