A serious traffic accident caused significant traffic disruption in Alto Garda on the afternoon of Thursday, April 17, along the State Road 240, in the stretch between Loppio and Val di Ledro. The alert was triggered around 4:30 PM following a violent collision involving multiple vehicles at the height of Passo San Giovanni, which forced authorities to completely close the roadway to facilitate rescue operations. Three individuals sustained serious injuries: a 52-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, and a 79-year-old woman, all of whom were urgently transported to Rovereto Hospital in critical condition.
The causes of the accident are still under investigation, but the impact necessitated the joint intervention of ambulances, a rescue helicopter, and several fire brigade teams. The road closure immediately resulted in long traffic jams in both directions, with delays documented by cameras extending to the Mori tunnels and the surrounding streets in the town.
