In Salò, on Thursday the 19th at 8:30 PM, there will be a meeting at the library for the Salòtto d’autore with Giampaolo Matrone, the last survivor of Rigopiano, who will present his book “The Last Survivor of Rigopiano: 62 Hours Under the Snow. A Disaster Still Without Guilty Parties.” During the event, he will engage in a dialogue with Roberta Ghirardi. Matrone was the last person rescued from the Abruzzo hotel that was struck by an avalanche in January 2017, where 29 people lost their lives, including his wife.
The book recounts the horror and the struggle for justice of those who experienced that tragic event. The avalanche hit the Rigopiano-Gran Sasso Resort while forty people were inside. After a lengthy rescue operation, only eleven survived the incident. Investigations into the event have raised questions and led to inadequate condemnations given the severity of the situation, making Matrone’s account a crucial testimony for those seeking the truth about what happened.
