Andrea Maggioni, Vice President of Visit Brescia with a focus on Lake Garda and President of the Salò Promotion Merchants Association, recently provided an update on the current tourism season. During the interview, Maggioni emphasized that the early months of the year did not meet expectations due to unfavorable weather conditions and a decline in tourist flows. However, thanks to tourism promotion strategies implemented by Visit Brescia and the Garda Lombardia Consortium, it has been possible to recover some visitor numbers, attracting tourists from new markets such as North America and the United Arab Emirates. As the season concludes during the Christmas period, it is anticipated that the total number of visitors in 2024 will remain stable compared to 2023.
Maggioni also highlighted the importance of diversifying the tourism offerings to attract a broader audience, given the changing behaviors of European travelers. The emergence of new markets is crucial to offset the decline from traditional sources such as Germany and Austria. Furthermore, he pointed out the need to improve local infrastructure to support sustainable and high-quality tourism, hoping for collaborations between public and private entities to tackle these challenges. The synergy among various institutions will be vital to ensure effective promotion of the area and maintain Lake Garda as a preferred destination in the international tourism landscape.
