A 32-year-old man has been reported for attempted fraud against an elderly resident in Padenghe sul Garda. The man posed as a police officer and tried to extort €3,800 from the woman, informing her that her son was involved in a serious car accident and that a lawyer would be sent to collect bail money.
Fortunately, the woman’s real son noticed the presence of a stranger in the courtyard of their home and alerted his mother, who was already opening the door to welcome the supposed lawyer. The son immediately called the carabinieri of the Nucleo operativo e Radiomobile in Salò, who reported the fraudster while he was still at large.
It is important to remember that law enforcement never asks for money or personal information over the phone or through home visits. If in doubt or suspicious, it is always advisable to directly contact the local police station or carabinieri to verify the authenticity of any requests.
