A “sick sister” scam has struck the parish priest of Vobarno, causing significant dismay within the local community. Recently, a couple of Romanian citizens deceived Father Giuseppe Savio into believing they needed assistance for the medical care of their severely ill sister in Romania. Moved by their touching story, the priest donated several thousand euros to them. However, after repeated requests for money, Father Savio decided to contact the carabinieri, who subsequently arrested the two in the act for fraudulent donation.
In a positive turn of events, the scammers returned the money taken from the priest. Investigations revealed that the sister had never existed, and the community rallied in solidarity with Father Savio, highlighting the importance of vigilance against such frauds. The situation sparked strong reactions among residents of the Brescia Garda area, emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable individuals from similar deceptions.
