Sirmione is preparing to welcome an autumn rich in events dedicated to photography, transforming into a reference point for enthusiasts in the field. As the seasons change, the vibrant colors of summer give way to warmer tones, creating an ideal atmosphere for a series of initiatives that celebrate the art of photography.
Sirmione Photo Marathon
The first major event is the Sirmione Photo Marathon, a photography competition taking place on Sunday, October 13, from 10 AM to 6 PM. This emblematic event of the Sirmione Photography Award will see the participation of 242 photographers, ready to challenge themselves in capturing images inspired by four secret themes revealed only at the start of the competition. Piazza Carducci will thus become the focal point of visual art for the entire day.
Presentation of the Sirmione Photo Residency
Following this, on Friday, October 18, at 6 PM, there will be a meeting with Mattia Marzorati, the resident photographer for 2024. At the Hotel Catullo in Piazza Flaminia, Marzorati will present his projects in dialogue with journalist Francesca Roman. The event, titled “Perspectives/Margins,” will provide an in-depth look at the artist’s poetic vision through his past works and a preview of his current project “Venatùra,” which focuses on the local nature and its fragility.
Environmental and Artistic-Cultural Reflections
During this meeting, Marzorati will explore how photography can transcend mere visual documentation. Quoting Luigi Ghirri, he emphasizes that “photographing the world is also a way to understand it,” thus expressing his intention to establish deep connections between humans and the environment through his images.
Visual Discoveries with Simona Ghizzoni
The following week will feature another significant event: on Friday, October 25, at 6 PM, Palazzo Callas Exhibitions will host the presentation of “A RIVA,” the photographic project by Simona Ghizzoni, created during the Sirmione Photo Residency of 2023. During this evening, Ghizzoni will discuss her work intertwining elements of memory and environmental reflection with Roberta Valtorta and Ludovica Pellegatta. The photographs narrate a primordial reality where the delicate balance between nature and landscape emerges.
Imago@Catullo Review
In addition to these events, activities from the Imago@Catullo series, promoted by Fabio and Elena Barelli of Hotel Catullo, will also take place. The program includes meetings with important figures in the contemporary photography scene such as Michele Smargiassi and Marc De Tollenaere. Additionally, Stefano Mirabella will lead three sessions dedicated to street photography.
Lake Garda Photo Challenge
Until October 31, the Lake Garda Photo Challenge will remain open, offering all photography lovers the opportunity to capture the natural beauty of Sirmione and Lake Garda, with cash prizes up to €1,500.
