The city of **Sirmione** is preparing to host a culturally significant event: the photographic exhibition “DOGDOGS” by renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt. Inaugurated on Friday, March 14, at Palazzo Callas Exhibitions, the exhibition invites the public to explore profound themes related to the human condition through the interpretation of dogs, animals that have always accompanied us in our daily lives.
Erwitt’s words provide a clear insight into his art: “Dogs have human qualities, and I believe my photographs possess an anthropomorphic charm. Essentially, they have nothing to do with dogs… I mean, I hope what they talk about is the human condition. But people can interpret them as they wish.” This reflection highlights how the images presented are more than mere portraits of animals; they invite deep introspection about our own existence.
The inauguration saw the participation of significant figures from the local community, including Luisa Lavelli, Mayor of Sirmione, Riccardo Genovesi, Tourism Councillor, and Andréa Holzherr, Global Cultural Director of Magnum Photos. This gathering marked the beginning of a visual experience that will continue until Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The “DOGDOGS” exhibition is not only an opportunity to admire the work of a master of contemporary photography but also a chance to reflect on how animals can mirror aspects of our existence. With irony and sensitivity, Erwitt manages to capture moments that speak directly to the heart of the viewer.
