The bishops of the Lombard Consulta concluded their spiritual retreat with a solemn Mass at the Sanctuary of Montecastello di Tignale, on Lake Garda, on July 12, 2024. The Santa Cecilia Choir of Maderno accompanied the ceremony, which took place in a place dear to Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, who had found refuge for prayer and meditation here since 1982.
This biennial meeting of the bishops is a crucial moment for reflecting on and renewing the pastoral spirit that guides their service in Lombardy. The hermitage, now named after Martini since 2014, offers a unique setting in the Alto Garda Bresciano Park, emphasizing the importance of contemplation in the “beauty of creation,” as the cardinal himself liked to define it.
