Efforts to halt the introduction of the highway toll along the Corda Molle, the Ospitaletto-Montichiari bypass frequented by approximately 22,000 vehicles daily, continue to intensify. Recently, the President of the Province, Emanuele Moraschini, and the Councilor for Roads, Paolo Fontana, sent a communication to the Minister of Transport, Matteo Salvini, requesting a one-year postponement of the toll’s implementation to allow for the study of alternative proposals. This initiative is backed by representatives from 24 municipalities and local associations, but so far, they have not received any official responses.
In addition to institutional pressures, citizens have also decided to make their voices heard. Numerous commuters, residents, students, and workers from the area have signed a letter addressed to Minister Salvini, asking for the Provincial Road 19 to remain toll-free. They emphasize that the introduction of the toll could negatively impact their daily lives and seek guarantees for free movement on such a crucial stretch for thousands of people.
