Agreement between Municipalities for Summer Closure of SR 450
After years of negotiations and a successful trial, the mayors of Peschiera, Orietta Gaiulli, and Affi, Marco Giacomo Sega, have reached an agreement to limit heavy vehicle traffic on regional road 450 during the summer months. This decision was facilitated by the Prefecture of Verona and aims to improve the quality of life for residents and road safety in the lower Lake Garda area.
Successful Trial and Future Decisions
The trial, which started in August of the previous year, involved a one-month halt to heavy traffic. The results were so satisfactory that local authorities have decided to make this measure permanent for the entire summer period. The closure will be implemented through a decree issued by Veneto Strade.
Details of the Restriction
The restriction will apply to vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes and will be enforced from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. This restriction will be in effect from mid-June to mid-September each year, aiming to reduce the negative impact caused by heavy traffic during the busiest months.
Impact of Heavy Traffic on SR 450
A traffic flow study conducted last year revealed that approximately 2,500 heavy vehicles were passing through this road section daily. These numbers are considered unsustainable for the capacity of the regional road, justifying the need for the imposed restrictions.
Exemptions and Alternatives to the Restriction
Despite the restriction, there will be exceptions for vehicles heading to productive settlements located in the province of Verona. For these vehicles, as well as for others exempted from the restrictions, the toll-free alternative of the State Road 12 del Brennero will be indicated. This solution allows for the continuation of commercial operations without burdening local traffic.
