Recently, during an event held over the weekend at the Sala dei Provveditori in Salò, the results of a survey conducted by the OTG (Observatory for Tourism on Lake Garda) regarding sustainable tourism in the region were presented. The meeting highlighted the current and future tourism challenges faced by the sector, addressing crucial topics such as mobility, environmental protection, and the enhancement of cultural heritage. In the presence of local administrators, operators, and researchers, an overview of the responses provided by the mayors of 33 municipalities through a questionnaire on tourism policies was shared, emphasizing the importance of developing shared plans that promote sustainable practices.
The survey revealed significant changes in tourism in the Lake Garda area post-pandemic, with an increase in local tourism and a growing demand for outdoor activities. The administrations underscored the necessity of protecting the lake’s waters and improving local public transport as top priorities. Furthermore, nearly 60% of respondents expressed concerns regarding the lack of coordination in actions taken among the various municipalities. The challenges to be addressed include not only the governance of tourist flows but also the impact of globalization on sustainability and local ecosystems.
