Lake Garda is preparing to host the ninth edition of SWIMTHEISLAND Sirmione, an event that combines sport, nature, and history. Organized by TriO Events with the support of the Lombardy Region, the Province of Brescia, and the Municipality of Sirmione, the event is expected to attract 1,500 participants from Italy and abroad for a weekend of open water swimming.
Sirmione will be transformed into a vibrant sports arena on June 22nd and 23rd, with athletes ready to compete in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Garda. “It will be an unforgettable sight to see the water surrounding our peninsula filled with swimmers,” said Luisa Lavelli, Mayor of Sirmione. The event promises not only exciting competitions but also the opportunity to experience the area while respecting the environment.
The competition program is rich and varied, designed to cater to athletes with different levels of fitness. On Saturday, June 22nd, the Expo Village at Prete Beach will open at 9:30 am. The first competitions will start at 11:30 am with KID’STHEISLAND, dedicated to younger participants with distances ranging from 100m to 400m. This will be followed by the Family/Team Event (800m) and the MWM Relay (800m), with the Short Swim (1,800m) concluding the day.
The day will culminate with the Sunset Swim (1,500m), a scenic race at sunset starting from Giamaica Beach – recently awarded the Blue Flag – and ending in the historic center, passing by the Grotte di Catullo.
Sunday, June 23rd, will be the highlight of the event with the Classic Swim (3,200m), a challenge that will see participants circumnavigate the entire Sirmione peninsula, passing iconic locations such as the Diaz lakeside promenade and the Prete Beach framed by the walls of the Castle.
The event will also feature the special presence of the award-winning swimmer Ilaria Cusinato, ambassador of the Jaked brand, known for her Olympic participations and European medals.
The Sirmione stage follows the one held in San Teodoro on June 8th-9th and anticipates the main event, SWIMTHEISLAND Golfo d’Isola, scheduled for October 5th-6th in the Bergeggi Marine Protected Area.
