On August 17, 2024, a non-competitive swim took place in Salò in memory of the artist Pippa Bacca, who was murdered in 2008 in Turkey during her performance “Spose in viaggio – Brides on tour.” Approximately one hundred people participated in the event, which was held in the Gulf of Salò and was delayed by half an hour due to adverse weather conditions. The celebration was themed in green, Pippa’s favorite color.
Pippa Bacca, born Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, had embarked on her artistic journey dressed as a bride to promote peace among peoples. Her tragic murder occurred on March 31, 2008, in Gebze, Turkey. Each year, August 17 serves as a moment of commemoration to honor her message of peace and the impact of her art.
