After Marisa Laurito’s recent statements regarding the presence of the Camorra in Desenzano del Garda, Paola Pollini, President of the Regional Commission against Mafia, Corruption, Transparency and Legality, also spoke out. The president emphasized that the mafia is deeply rooted in the Garda area and that the discussion about the presence of the Camorra in Desenzano is superficial.
According to Pollini, the mafia thrives on denial and superficiality and is now well established in the Garda area. The presence of the mafia, including in Desenzano, is confirmed by several reports and research on the phenomenon, such as those by the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate (DIA) and the CROSS Observatory of Nando Dalla Chiesa.
The Garda area represents an investment hub for illicit capital, and therefore crimes such as prostitution, usury, and extortion are limited to avoid compromising seemingly legal businesses. According to Pollini, it is necessary to heat up the fight against the mafia and promote legality. As Giovanni Falcone used to say, we must follow the money, and as Paolo Borsellino said, we must talk about it in every setting.
