The Christmas tree from the Val di Ledro has been officially installed in St. Peter’s Square in Rome to celebrate Christmas 2024. The lighting ceremony for the nearly 30-meter tall tree took place following a meeting between Pope Francis and a delegation from Trentino, which included representatives from local communities and institutions, such as the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti. During the audience, the Pope praised the tree not only for its beauty but also for the adherence to ecological principles that guided its selection.
The fir tree was chosen as part of a sustainable project and is part of a lot that was cut to ensure the health of the forest. In addition to the main tree, 39 other trees have been decorated for various locations within the Vatican. The tree and the nativity scene will remain on display until January 12, 2025, offering visitors a symbol of community and Trentino tradition in the heart of Christianity.
