The regional assessor for Culture, Francesca Caruso, has stated that Lombardy is ready to welcome La Gioconda, in response to a letter published in the French newspaper Le Parisien. In the letter, Laurence des Cars, president of the Louvre, expressed concerns about the conditions of the room housing the artwork. Caruso welcomed the idea of finding a new location for Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting, emphasizing the importance of this masterpiece as a symbol of Italian art and culture.
Furthermore, the assessor highlighted how this proposal could hold special significance in light of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, offering visitors a unique opportunity to appreciate Italian genius through what she describes as the “Vincian circuit.” Thus, Lombardy positions itself as an ideal stage to make one of the most precious treasures of our cultural heritage accessible to the general public.
