In the municipalities of Magasa and Valvestino, located on Lake Garda, the administrative process to transfer to the Trentino region has resumed. This process was decided through a referendum in 2008 but had been stalled in the subsequent years. The Minister for Regional Affairs, Roberto Calderoli, has recently reactivated the necessary discussions with the Lombardy Region and the Province of Trento to complete the procedure. This development has been met with enthusiasm by the residents and local authorities, including the Mayor of Valvestino, Davide Pace.
The change of region requires a formal legislative measure from the central government and involves practical aspects such as justice and the land registry, which are currently managed by the Province of Trento. Additionally, a significant infrastructure project is also pending: the construction of a tunnel that would directly connect Valvestino to Trentino. Despite the geological difficulties encountered in building the tunnel, work continues with a revision of the initial project to find an alternative solution.
