From October 18, 2024, to February 16, 2025, the exhibition “The Renaissance in Brescia. Moretto, Romanino, Savoldo. 1512-1552” will be held at the Museum of Santa Giulia in Brescia, promoted by the Brescia Musei Foundation and the Municipality of Brescia. The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the complexity and richness of Brescia’s history in the first half of the sixteenth century through a selection of masterpieces from the Brescia Renaissance.

The exhibition goes beyond the presentation of artworks and includes a series of meetings involving curators and other professionals. These events will take place in various locations, including the Castello di Padernello, Montichiari Musei, Palazzo Te in Mantua, and the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan.

The meetings will delve into the reasons that led the three masters of the Renaissance – Moretto, Romanino, and Savoldo – to develop their expressive language in Brescia. It will be possible to identify the elements that allowed the Brescia school to stand out in the Italian artistic landscape of the sixteenth century. This dialogue will involve not only paintings but also weapons, goldsmithing, and musical instruments.

The approach to the exhibition will begin on May 10 in Iseo, with a meeting at the Aula Magna of the Antonietti Institute. Other events will follow in Mantua, Milan, and other locations. All meetings are open and free, and to participate, one simply needs to send an email or call the CUP – Centro Unico Prenotazioni.

The journey will conclude with a presentation open to the public on the evening of October 17. This will be an opportunity for all citizens of Brescia and beyond to admire the exhibited works up close and immerse themselves in the history of the Brescia Renaissance.

The Brescia Musei Foundation is a public-private participation foundation that manages important museums in the city, including the Museum of Santa Giulia, Brixia – Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia, the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo, the Luigi Marzoli Arms Museum, the Leonessa d’Italia Risorgimento Museum, the Falcone d’Italia Castle in Brescia, and the Cinema Nuovo Eden. The Foundation is a reference point in the city’s cultural landscape and offers a wide range of events and activities for all art and culture enthusiasts.
