The DIM Municipal Theater of Castelnuovo del Garda will host the screening of the short film “Il Tricolore” by Andrea Baglio on Friday, April 12th at 8:30 pm. The film tells the story of the battle of Oliosi during the Third War of Independence. It reconstructs the heroic deeds of Captain Baroncelli and his 44th Regiment, who resisted the Austrian offensive at the Castellana farmhouse in Oliosi and handed down the Tricolore of Oliosi to history.
The evening, which is free to attend, will begin with an introduction to the historical events narrated by Professor Luigi Pizzighella. This will be followed by the screening of the short film and then a presentation by the director and cast, with the possibility of interaction with the audience. The event will be moderated by Leo Canali.
The mayor, Giovanni Dal Cero, the councilor for Culture and Education, Rossella Vanna Ardielli, and the president of the Oliosi section of the National Association of Fighters and Veterans, Stefano Grasso, will all be present at the event.
The short film was shot in October in Oliosi and the surrounding areas and is the result of collaboration between different associations to find suitable texts and images to contextualize the story. The exhibition of panels created by comic book artist Fabio Berti, titled “The History of Castelnuovo,” will be set up in the theater foyer. The comic book recounts the events of the massacre of Castelnuovo in 1848 and the heroic episode of the Flag of Oliosi in 1866.
Councilor Ardielli emphasizes that this work is particularly aimed at schools in order to promote a critical and respectful awareness of history. In recent years, various projects have been carried out to enhance the history of the municipality, including joining GardaMusei, the MuDRi (Widespread Museum of the Risorgimento), cycling routes, and the establishment of an exhibition space in the former elementary school of Oliosi.
Mayor Dal Cero adds that these projects are aimed at keeping the memory of the tragic events of the Risorgimento wars alive. The screening of the short film and the exhibition of comics represent further initiatives to preserve the historical heritage of the territory.
