A new online initiative, organized by the Paolo VI Collections, explores the relationship between art and the Church through the Vatican’s role in the Universal Exhibitions from 1851 to 2015. The event is curated by Micol Forti, director of the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection at the Vatican Museums.
The video conference revolves around the presentation of the book “Attraversare la storia, mostrare il presente: il Vaticano e le Esposizioni Internazionali – 1851-2015” (Crossing History, Showing the Present: The Vatican and the International Exhibitions – 1851-2015), written by Micol Forti along with Federica Guth and Rosalia Pagliarani. Published in 2016, this volume examines how the major international exhibitions represented an opportunity for the Vatican to showcase not only its religious influence but also its contributions in the fields of art, architecture, and communication.
The event will take place on the Google Meet platform and is free to attend until all seats are filled. Technical instructions for participation will be sent via email to registered participants shortly before the event.
