A 57-year-old man from Brescia has died due to a tick bite. Riccardo Scalmazzi, originally from Gavardo and residing in Bondone in Trentino, lost his life after a long hospitalization at the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento, where he had been admitted for about two months following an encephalitis. The infectious disease manifested after contact with the insect, leading to a rapid deterioration of his condition. After the diagnosis, his state progressively worsened until he fell into a coma and ultimately passed away on December 17 from tick-borne meningoencephalitis.
Scalmazzi’s funeral will take place this afternoon, Thursday, December 19, in his community in Bondone. An active volunteer with the Alpine group, his passing has caused great sorrow among friends and members of the local community.
