Tignale: Windsurfer in Distress Rescued by the Coast Guard. Today, Saturday, December 28, at around 12:20 PM, the Operations Room of the Salò Coast Guard received a distress call regarding a 48-year-old man who had been missing for over two hours during a windsurfing outing. Concerned friends of the athlete raised the alarm after losing sight of him. In response to the emergency, two naval vessels were dispatched, and assistance from 118 emergency aircraft and the Fire Brigade was requested.
After approximately an hour of searching, the crew of the CP 703 patrol boat spotted the windsurfer adrift about one kilometer south of Tignale. He was quickly recovered and brought back to shore, where he was greeted by his friends without the need for medical assistance, thanks to the wetsuit he was wearing. The incident was caused by a break in the sail’s attachment to the board, which prevented the windsurfer from navigating and left him adrift in choppy lake conditions. The Coast Guard always advises sports enthusiasts and boaters to carry mobile devices to facilitate potential rescues.
