The tourist season on Lake Garda is starting late due to unstable weather conditions and a decrease in the presence of German tourists, who are being held back by the economic crisis in Germany. Despite the arrival of new visitors from Eastern Europe, the United States, and Arab countries, the 30% drop during Easter and subsequent holidays has not been fully compensated. The tourist resorts around the lake, often reached by car, have been affected by last-minute bookings influenced by bad weather.
Furthermore, the increase in prices by 5% to 10% has further complicated the situation for tourists. According to Alessandro Fantini of Federalberghi Brescia, these price hikes are mainly due to the increase in energy raw material costs. Despite the significant growth in American visitors who spend more on average than Germans, the local tourism sector hopes for a recovery in the coming months, thanks to the post-Covid Italian market and non-European visitors.
