A 40-year-old man from Sri Lanka was found dead in the waters of Lake Garda in Torri del Benaco on the night of July 14, 2024. The man had been seen swimming around 1 a.m. towards a moored inflatable boat, but he did not resurface. The body was recovered by firefighters’ divers at 4:35 a.m., lying at a depth of approximately 10 meters.
The search operations were coordinated by the Coast Guard of Salò and involved naval units from the Coast Guard and firefighters, with the assistance of divers from Mestre. The Carabinieri also intervened at the scene to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident, and an ambulance from the emergency medical service (118) arrived, whose doctor confirmed the man’s death. Investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
