Moniga del Garda is set to host an event dedicated to local food and wine, featuring the **Tuber aestivum** as the star attraction. The event “Truffles Under the Stars” will take place on Friday, August 23, and Saturday, August 24, in the picturesque Piazza San Martino, providing visitors with the opportunity to discover the summer truffle of Lake Garda.
## The Tuber Aestivum: Characteristics and Harvest
The summer truffle, also known as **scorzone** or **black summer truffle**, is recognizable for its size and the unique texture of its peridium. Although it lacks the intense flavor of prized black truffles, it can still offer satisfying tasting experiences when used appropriately. This year, the harvest is expected to be particularly favorable due to the abundant spring rains that have promoted the growth of this exquisite fungus.

### Friday, August 23, 2024
– **5:00 PM**: Start of the truffle hunting demonstration at the dog area on Via Namponti. Participants will have the chance to witness trained dogs in action.
– Following this, a national truffle hunting competition organized by A.S.C. Cinofilia will take place.
– **7:00 PM**: Food stands will offer a variety of dishes featuring summer truffles paired with wines from the Valtènesi wineries. Among the new offerings will be skewers with truffle polenta and truffle pizza.
– **8:00 PM**: A special dinner at the Dogana Bistrot in collaboration with Areadocks Brescia, providing a unique opportunity to savor the distinct flavors of summer truffles.
