The Regional Council of Lombardy has initiated an innovative experiment to enhance Ultra Broadband in underserved areas, approving a collaboration agreement with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The project, which involves Undersecretary Alessio Butti and Councillor Franco Lucente, entails a total investment of 6.5 million euros and aims to test the performance of hybrid networks by combining satellite and terrestrial technologies. The experiment will focus on uncovered territories, thereby addressing the issue of digital divide.
Undersecretary Butti described this initiative as a significant step in the fight against the digital divide, with the intent to ensure equal connectivity opportunities even in peripheral areas. Councillor Lucente emphasized the importance of the project in providing efficient and fast services throughout the Lombardy region. With the technical support of the ARIA agency, the expected outcomes from the experimental phase could help bridge existing infrastructure gaps and promote more equitable access to digital connectivity.
