Regional councilor Paola Pollini has submitted an inquiry regarding the Valvestino-Bondone tunnel, raising questions about costs, risks, and alternatives for this long-awaited project. The initiative, designed to connect the upper Garda valley with the Trentino Giudicarie, has been under discussion since 2011, yet no concrete progress has been made thus far. Pollini seeks clarification on the actual willingness of the provincial administration of Trento and the municipality of Valvestino to proceed with the works, while also urging for new projects that could address the real needs of the local population.
The tunnel, which is approximately 5 km long and outlined in a program agreement from May 2017, initially had an estimated investment of 32.4 million euros. However, according to the councilor’s inquiry, costs could now range between 60 and 80 million due to complexities revealed by preliminary geological studies. These studies have highlighted significant issues related to high hydraulic pressures that could jeopardize local aquifers. While awaiting the release of funds from the Border Municipalities Fund designated for the tunnel, Pollini is also calling for resources to improve the Valvestino road network and ensure urgent interventions in the districts of the municipalities involved.
