In recent hours, Montichiari has witnessed a new act of vandalism, with graffiti against Israel and in support of Palestine appearing in various areas of the town center, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and a building near the rectory. Mayor Marco Togni condemned the incident via social media, sharing images of the defacement of the mural at the Don Milani Institute, created by artist Vera Bugatti, which had been vandalized with the phrase “Fuck Israel.” Togni has reached out to the artist to discuss how to restore the artwork and labeled those responsible for this act as “idiots.”
Matteo Lanfredi, a representative of the students, described the incident as “a disgrace” and announced that students would mobilize to remove the graffiti. In the meantime, the graffiti on the columns of the Cathedral has been temporarily covered while awaiting approval from the Heritage Authority for their permanent removal.
