The Council of State has upheld the denial of the expansion of the Vighizzolo landfill in Montichiari, rejecting the appeal submitted by Systema Ambiente for the addition of 190,000 cubic meters of special waste. The decision is based on the regulations of the Lombardy Region, which restrict the expansion of facilities beyond 160,000 cubic meters per square kilometer in order to prevent excessive accumulation in already saturated areas.
Furthermore, the judges emphasized that the municipality has already reached a significant pressure factor, with 12 million cubic meters of waste stored in a densely populated area. The European directive on waste disposal, deemed to be environmentally unfriendly, further influenced the decision, highlighting the need for permits to be granted with caution and prudence.
