Mission accomplished: the road from Vo’ to Desenzano has been reopened, despite the obstacles that characterized the restoration works. After a month of assessments to ensure safety, the road was opened to traffic before Easter. The temporary closure order, in effect since March 2nd due to the landslide that occurred the previous evening, has been revoked.
Thanks to the report from the geologists responsible for verifying the instability of the hillside of Monte Corno, it was possible to confirm the possibility of reopening the road to normal traffic, except for the parking spaces below the affected area.
The area affected by the material collapse was limited to a few hundred square meters. The closure of Via Vo’ to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between the municipal kiosk and civic number 19 was necessary for safety reasons, considering previous incidents such as a landslide that engulfed a car in 2014. Fortunately, there were no serious consequences.
To assess the situation, a geologist was commissioned to prepare a report on the current state of instability and develop a project to identify the necessary work to stabilize and secure the slope.
The intervention had already been planned but was postponed due to persistent adverse weather conditions. It was only when the rain stopped that it was possible to intervene. The heavy rainfall in recent weeks was the cause of the landslide, which has always been fragile but even more so in the last ten years due to the removal of numerous trees.
The municipality was forced to act promptly considering the danger posed by the landslide, which could have been exacerbated by atmospheric disturbances. But now the worst is over and the road from Vo’ can be traveled without problems.
