The western section of the Gardesana road will be closed to traffic on Tuesday, March 26th to allow for a controlled explosion necessary for the demolition of rocks along the mountainside. The closure is scheduled from 9 am to 1 pm, but may be postponed in case of bad weather.
The affected area is located near the northern entrance of the Casagrande tunnel and the start of the Ponale trail, where on March 8th, large rocks fell onto the road, partially blocking it. Following the incident, the Autonomous Province of Trento collaborated with the Municipality of Riva del Garda, the fire department, the geological service, the road management service, and the Mari company to carry out targeted interventions to mitigate risks and restore safety in the area affected by the landslide. The road was reopened on March 15th.
However, a series of controlled explosions are still needed to remove the remaining rocks in the catchment area. The first explosion will take place on Tuesday, and the others will be carried out during the mornings throughout the week. Weekdays were chosen for the interventions to minimize inconvenience for students and workers who use that stretch of road.
For anyone needing to reach the area affected by the closure of the western Gardesana road, GPS directions provided in the text can be used to find an alternative route.
