On New Year’s Eve, a wildfire broke out on the slopes of Mount Brione, in Riva del Garda, shortly after midnight, presumably due to the festive fireworks. To address the emergency, 10 vehicles from the Riva del Garda Fire Brigade were mobilized, supported by teams from Arco, with around twenty firefighters engaged on the ground. As a precautionary measure, the SS240 road connecting Porto San Nicolò to Linfano was closed to traffic due to the risk of falling rocks and to facilitate firefighting operations.
The intervention required the use of approximately 45,000 liters of water during the night, with an additional 20,000 liters sprayed by helicopter in the early morning hours to complete the area’s containment. According to reports from the firefighters, the dry terrain and wind contributed to the spread of the fire on multiple fronts, extending over about 100 meters. Law enforcement is currently investigating to identify those responsible for the incident, and firefighters are urging more responsible behavior to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
