A windsurfer was rescued by the Coast Guard after being reported missing on Lake Tignale. The alert was raised on Wednesday, November 20, around 3:30 PM, when a companion reported that the man had been out of sight for over half an hour. Immediately, naval units from the Coast Guard based in Salò and the Inland Waters team of the State Police from Riva del Garda were deployed, supported by a helicopter from the emergency services that took off from Bergamo. Adverse weather conditions, with strong winds reaching up to 40 knots, complicated the rescue operations.
After about 40 minutes of searching, the windsurfer, a 47-year-old man who was in distress due to a broken mast on his board, was spotted drifting. The crew of the vessel GC Alfa 58 proceeded with the recovery and transported him to the port of Tignale, where an ambulance was already on standby to provide medical assistance. The Coast Guard emphasized the importance of always monitoring weather conditions before engaging in water activities and recommends having a mobile phone with internet access available to facilitate any potential rescues.
