Recent developments in the wine sector have seen Coldiretti and Filiera Italia express strong concerns regarding proposals for warning labels, which are deemed unacceptable for a crucial segment of Italian agriculture. During a press conference, Coldiretti’s president, Ettore Prandini, emphasized that such choices lack scientific basis and could harm the 240,000 Italian winegrowers and the 1.3 million people employed along the supply chain. These statements come just before the General States of Wine, scheduled for tomorrow.
Additionally, Coldiretti recently sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, urging her to reject proposals that include the addition of discouraging messages on bottles and an increase in taxation on wine. Secretary General Vincenzo Gesmundo reiterated that these measures do not reflect the interests of Italian agricultural businesses and consumers. Coldiretti and Filiera Italia have announced their intention to mobilize publicly to oppose any initiative that could further penalize this vital sector for Italy.
