Recent sightings of wolves in Veneto have raised concerns among citizens and local authorities. In particular, new sightings have been reported in recent weeks, especially in the Polesine region, where two packs have been identified along the Po River. To address this increasing presence of wolves in inhabited areas, the Region has distributed an informational brochure to the mayors of Veneto municipalities, containing guidelines on how to behave in case of encounters with these wild animals. The regional assessor for Territory and Hunting, Cristiano Corazzari, emphasized the importance of sharing this information with the public to ensure the safety of both citizens and pets.
The brochure provides practical advice such as not leaving waste or food near homes and protecting pets. In the event of close encounters with a wolf displaying confident behavior, it is recommended to contact the relevant authorities at the number 112. Corazzari highlighted that monitoring of the species will continue this year to study their numbers and behaviors, as preliminary data indicates an expansion of the wolf population even in the plains. The collaboration of citizens is essential to prevent risky situations and maintain a proper balance between wildlife and urban areas.
