After 25 years, it seems that the long-awaited Rovizza interchange is finally ready to be realized. This project is of fundamental importance for improving road circulation among the municipalities of Pozzolengo, Peschiera del Garda, and Sirmione. As part of the broader plan for the redevelopment and modernization of the Provincial Road formerly known as S.S. 11, this initiative represents a turning point for local traffic, reducing congestion and enhancing accessibility between the two shores of the lake.
Project Overview
The new Rovizza interchange is the completion of the first phase of the Peschiera Bypass, focusing on connections between Provincial Road No. 11 “Padana Superiore” and local roads, traversing the municipalities of Pozzolengo (Brescia province) and Peschiera del Garda (Verona province). The project, with a financial framework of 2,400,000 euros, was recently approved thanks to the collaboration between the Province of Brescia and the municipalities of Sirmione, Pozzolengo, and Peschiera del Garda.
The new infrastructure includes:
- A connecting road approximately 385 meters long, crossing both municipal jurisdictions.
- A roundabout at the intersection with the former Provincial Road No. 13, designed to improve safety and traffic flow.
Technical Data and Specifications
- Connecting Road: The new road will be 385 meters long and will serve as a connection between the local road network and the main interchange, enhancing accessibility between Lake Garda and the surrounding hilly areas.
- Roundabout: The designed roundabout will have an inner radius of 18 meters and an outer radius of 23 meters, with a paved roadway of 8 meters, divided into a one-way lane of 6.5 meters and two shoulders of 0.5 and 1 meter. The presence of a traversable paved ring of 2 meters will facilitate the passage of large vehicles.
Project Approval
On September 19, 2024, the tender for the completion of the Rovizza interchange was announced with the managerial determination of the Province of Brescia No. 2025 dated September 12, 2024. The Mayor of Sirmione, Luisa Lavelli, expressed great satisfaction with this achievement, stating:
“We are particularly pleased to see the realization of the Rovizza interchange coming to fruition soon. After years of waiting and continuous collaboration among various entities, we will be able to ensure greater road safety, development, and services for the village of Rovizza, which has grown over the years.”
Orietta Gaiulli, Mayor of Peschiera del Garda, also emphasized the strategic importance of this project:
“I am extremely happy that the completion of the bypass, with the construction of the link leading to Rovizza, is finally taking shape. This project will bring significant benefits and, above all, greater road safety to all citizens and tourists in the area.”
Economic Impact and Timeline
The tender, published on September 13, 2024, has a total cost of 2,400,000 euros and the works must be completed within 300 days from the start date. This intervention will improve traffic conditions and reduce travel times between the affected locations, providing a modern and functional solution to long-standing traffic issues in the area.
Benefits for the Area
The Mayor of Pozzolengo, Alex Franzoni, stated:
“The Rovizza interchange will be our main gateway for all those visiting Lake Garda, a project awaited for over a decade.”
Moreover, Paolo Fontana, the Provincial Councilor for Public Works and Roads in Brescia, highlighted how the project has been modified to meet the needs of the Superintendency. The new version of the project reduces the diameter of the roundabout and the road section while maintaining the necessary safety features for the intersection.
The project has been developed with consideration for environmental and landscape impact, minimizing land consumption and ensuring greater compatibility with the surrounding agricultural and natural context, particularly in the Lugana production area.
Conclusions
The new Rovizza interchange represents a significant opportunity for infrastructural development in the Lake Garda area, with tangible benefits in terms of mobility, safety, and quality of life for residents and tourists. The construction of the connecting road and roundabout will enhance the efficiency of the road network, contributing to the economic and tourism revitalization of the entire Garda area.
The Rovizza interchange is set to become a crucial node for local traffic, effectively responding to the needs of a continuously growing area while simultaneously enhancing the natural and cultural landscape of Lake Garda.
